Sustain - relaxed days
I have wanted to host retreat days at home for a long time. I live in a beautiful part of North Dorset. At the end of teaching a class, I often wish I could allow my class to spend an hour or so more enjoying their post practice feeling, not needing the blanket or eye mask to be taken off quite so quickly.
My Sustain days are designed to allow people to spend a little more time in the company of a small group of people, enjoying a slightly longer yoga practice, healthy food, yoga Nidra and the option to try our wood fired sauna and colds shower.
Why Sustain?
I spent a long time wondering what to call these important days of rest. Wellbeing, wellness, and self care days are understood. I wanted my days to reflect what I hope will be gained from the day. Sustenance implies energy from food and from drink, but it also means supporting good health.
As we move through the year our energy levels naturally fluctuate, but our 21st century life doesn’t always allow us to slow down. Taking time out from our usual schedule is often a good idea, it acts as a rest in itself and can offer time to stop and reflect.
I wanted my retreat days to offer people the chance to rest and refuel; an opportunity to build on some reserves, which might help carry them on through the year as we constantly navigate the challenges of everyday life.
What can I expect on a Sustain Day?
Sustain days at myokeyoga will start mid morning, arrival is from 9.45am. We will share a 90 minute yoga practice, where mats, blankets, and props are provided. A healthy vegan lunch will come after our practice, soup and a nourishing salad looking out onto the painted garden.
I will often say that we need to meet our level of stress with an equal or greater level of rest. After lunch we will have a yoga Nidra. Proven to have lots of health benefits, a yoga Nidra. is a guided conscious sleep meditation. Taking time after the yoga Nidra, the day will end with the option to enjoy the wood fired sauna with cold shower and tea and cake before leaving at around 3pm.
